Rustic-Overtones.com interview with Paranoid Social Club, Part 2
    Conducted by Norm

Norm from Rustic-Overtones.com: Okay, so with the signing of the new record deal, what opportunities do you and PSC have?

Dave Gutter: Just basically, one of the big opportunities is distribution and promotion of our album, and also on the creative side there's being able to work in nicer studio facilities and work with top producers, and also being able to do shows and network with bigger bands than we would otherwise have a chance with.

N: What is your favorite Rustic memory?

    D: Hehe, I don't remember what I answered the other night…

N: You can answer whatever you want, whatever comes to mind.

D: It was working with David Bowie, I learned a lot from that experience.

N: Are Jon or Marc around or is it just you?

D: Jon is driving, and Marc is in California….Our tour just ended last night, we're in Connecticut now and almost home.

N: The song Scarecrow meant a lot to me personally, and I was wondering about the story behind it, what was going through your mind when you wrote it?

D: It was a long time ago, if there was something going through my mind at the time, I don't remember what it is now….I just basically, when I try to make a ballad, it's a little different than making an uptempo song, you have to be more personal about it and also try to say things that a lot of different people can relate to. The lyrics in a ballad are more pronounced and more people are going to actually listen to what you're saying than sometimes with like a faster song that can be overlooked….So that's usually how I approach all ballads but I don't remember exactly what the inspiration [for Scarecrow] came from because it was so long ago.

N: What is your favorite Paranoid memory?

D: I would say my favorite Paranoid memory would be bringing out our double CD, bringing [Axis I and III] out, that was a big accomplishment for us and something we had been talking about doing for a long time, and we did it pretty much without the help of anybody else, we just kinda locked ourselves in a little room and did it, so we finished that and we put that out and we got some good acclaims from our fans and also reviews and stuff like that, that was a good memory for Paranoid.

N: What's been your favorite stop on the tour, the best city you've visited or the best bar?

D: Actually I have to say, last night was pretty hot, down in Washington, DC, and for this particular tour that was the hottest night. [Technical difficulties, could not record remainder of answer]

N: A lot of PSC's fans are all about spreading the word about how great you guys are, but how would you best describe your style?

D: Cult rock….just rock music…most of the time it's people spreading word about Paranoid Social Club through word of mouth, usually that's somehow incorporated into the description of the band, that you can't really describe the music and that's what people like about it, that they find something a little different but it still maintains hooks and choruses and pop sensibility, but it's kind of its own animal in rock.

N: One more question I forgot, about your upcoming release coming out next year, I was wondering if you could tell us a little more about that?

D: It's going to be out in March, the first record we done as Paranoid, the records thus far have been independent and pretty hard to come by, and it kinda makes it even more paranoid that way because people have had to dig for them and hunt for them and order them [off the] Internet, stuff like that, and the new album will be everywhere, and it's gonna sound a lot better, we'll have much better resources, and it's going to be a combination of Axis II and Axis III that we released independently, and it's going to have a couple of new songs, and also a bonus CD in some areas that has live cuts and some rarities, stuff like that.
