Tour Updates

Above is a video of Rustic Overtones performing Crash Landing from their set Thursday night, at Revolution Hall. I was able to film three other songs as well, Carnival, Iron Boots, and a unique rendition of Letter to the President capping the evening.

As their extended tour down the East Coast winds down, so have things around here, and finally found some time to add all the fresh pictures, videos and setlists.

So far each date has had at least some brief notes, varying to setlists with full, detailed summaries. Head to the index to see what you missed.

The gallery has some recent additions, from their shows at the Santa Fe Cafe and the Gravity Lounge (thanks to Forum member rusty covertones) as well as pictures to accompany a few videos from Revolution Hall. Also added to the gallery are some photos from their first show of 2008, at Sunday River.

Destroy The Plastique Man

While you're over at the Bull Moose page, reserving your new Rustic CD, you may want to double up and get the new As Fast As album, Destroy The Plastique Man. Their latest creation became available just last week, following an in-store performance of their own.

You can download a recording of the Bull Moose performance here. Thanks to forum member Onlycrayons for that. As Fast As held a CD release party on the 14th at the Asylum, which he also taped, and should be available soon.

A few more quick points on Destroy the Plastique Man:
- As Fast As on WCYY's Spinout - Thurs. 3/20 7pm-10pm
- Story/interview and acoustic performance on WCSH's "207"
- As Fast As Myspace - listen to a few of the new tracks

Record Release News

It's official. Light At The End is set to debut nationwide this Tuesday. If you haven't already, I'd suggest placing your order at Bull Moose. They are offering an exclusive 7" vinyl, free with pre-orders, featuring the title track Light At The End and Sector Z, featuring David Bowie. Supply is limited, but still available for the time being..

March 18th also begins the reissuing of their "back catalog" with a "deluxe" edition of Long Division. Dem, a web manager for Bull Moose, was asked exactly what makes it "deluxe," to which he replied:

It's repackaged with new artwork in a cardboard case and includes three bonus tracks (14-16): "Red Afternoon", "Redemption Pays", and "Let Me Grabbitz". Haven't heard them and can't say whether they're live tracks, demos, stuff they played live but didn't include on studio records, session recordings, or brand new tracks.

The Rustic Overtones will be performing at the North Windham Bull Moose on Saturday, March 22nd to promote the release, before shipping out down the East coast on an extended tour.

Re-release of Light At The End

March 18th is slated as the release date for edition #2 of Light At The End, their first release on the Velour Music label. The band has kicked off some tour dates in New York City to promote it, and has many more lined up.

If you've been to a recent show, or will attend an upcoming date, snap some photos, jot down or snag a copy of the setlist - anything you can contribute we're happy to post and credit you!

There's some uncertainty to the contents of the re-release, however. Aside from new album art, Valentine's Day Massacre has been added, although it remains to be seen (rather, heard) if it's a new recording, or the same as on Viva Nueva.

It seems, according to the Amazon.com track listing, that Black Leather Bag was taken off to make room for it. Regardless, it's worth picking up, either as a collectible or a new addition to your library!

As you can see with the archive page, this was taped and created by Aaron Parker. All credit goes to him and I'm going to take this opportunity to thank him for all the work he's shared with us. It is much appreciated!

2. Evolution
3. Last Cigarette
4. Fucking With My Head
5. In My Headphones
6. Theme Song
7. Combustible
8. She Gets Me High

PSC's First Show: Date Confirmed

It was confirmed on the Rocklikewar.com forum that the performance posted yesterday was in fact their live debut, which took place June 5th, 2002, at the State Theater in Portland.

If you listen to the end of Rustic's "Last Show" you can hear Dave telling the crowd to "Come see the 2 Skinny J's June 5, 2 Skinny J's. Hope that helps.
Thanks to user maxpower4207 for the tip.

New Year's Eve Pictures

Three sets of pictures are now online from last night's New Year's Eve Bash at Northern Lights, presented by WEQX. I sorted them into separate galleries for each band, instead of one gigantic one.

As Fast As kicked things off, followed by Paranoid Social Club. Everyone took the stage to countdown to midnight, and then Rustic Overtones began their set. The entire show was recorded, but it might not have come out that well. Check back for that in the coming days.

Waterville Setlist and Download

Missed the Rustic Overtones show at the Waterville Opera House? As you can see, MPBN has it! But they're not alone. There's a few versions of this performance available for download.

Board member Nuphus recorded it from the live stream (Part 1, Part 2) although experienced an occasional cut-out in the sound. Next, you can download it from the MPBN site, as one huge mp3. Your third option is courtesy of Darek, who cut the MPBN copy into separate tracks. You can download that zip file here.

MPBN has also made Marie Morsehead's set available. You'll have to grab that from their site, however.

I've tacked on the setlist for the show which includes a long commentary by Nuphus, so check that out while you wait for your downloads. Also, if you were in attendance at the Pickle Barrel, on the 27th, we are missing that setlist and/or details. Get in touch with us if you have something! Thanks to everyone for their efforts!

Here are links to a recording of Friday's show at Harpers Ferry. There are two options to download, track by track as single mp3s, or in 2 parts (part 1, part 2) in zip files. Huge thanks to Peter (Onlycrayons) for getting this taped!

Harpers Ferry Shows

Pictures and setlists are up, from the weekend's shows at Harpers Ferry, in Allston / Boston, Massachusetts. Both nights featured some treats, such as Dig, Pop Trash, and Long Division; and as usual, hijinks and wisecracks from the guys. There's some tidbits included as notes with the setlists, as well as some discussion on Tim's message board, including taping Friday's performance.

This Week In Rustic

Thursday night, the Rustic Overtones played the Mercury Lounge, in New York City. Tonight and tomorrow they're at The Stone Church, in New Market, New Hampshire. And last Friday they were at the Ultra Lounge, in Orono, Maine. All in all a busy week.

I have added the setlist from the Mercury Lounge, but we are looking for reports from the 30th, and if you are attending a show, let us know how it went. We will credit you for anything you can contribute - a setlist/review, pictures, and so forth. This is a fan site, so we need your help! Just be sure to leave us a comment, send us an email, or shoot me (jeffd) a private message on the Rock Like War forum with anything you can share, because I'm not going to put things up without your permission.

As mentioned in a previous post, Oxygen is in the WEQX rotation. Today, during the Top 5 at 5, they announced the New Years Eve bash, confirming that it is indeed a triple-header, with not only Rustic, but As Fast As, and Paranoid Social Club.

A lot of board members have said they will be traveling, and with their popularity in EQXland factored in, I expect a solid turnout. Be advised to reserve yourself some tickets, else you could be turned away. Also, if you're buying online, I recommend using musictoday instead of ticketmaster, as the service charge is a bit less.

Acoustic Set Download

In case you don't read the message board (you should!) members Darek & 4khiker unearthed an old gem of a show and have shared it with us. It is a live acoustic recording from The Big Easy on August 17th, 2001. You can a) download it here, b) check out the setlist here, or c) read (and register!) for the forum here.

A Breath of Fresh Air

WEQX has added the Rustic Overtones song Oxygen to their current rotation. I heard it Sunday afternoon, while making some last minute rounds for work stuff with the ominous forecast and some light flurries. You can submit an e-quest or call in to their request line: (802) 362-1027

'Tis The Season

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hopefully by now you're over your tryptophan (myth busted!) or otherwise induced holiday hangover, because there is lots of news and rumors swirling about the Rustic Overtones.

First piece of business is that they are releasing a DVD expected to be out in the Spring. They are also re-issuing Long Division in time for the "Holidays." This was confirmed via a teaser for the DVD featured on their MySpace page. I have embedded the second trailer below.

They have also signed some sort of record deal, of which the specifics aren't yet clear. That said, forum member araungzeb reported talk from Spence and Dave that both Long Division and Light At The End will be reissued, featuring bonus tracks, as part of this deal.

While you're checking out the DVD teasers on their page, have a look at the tour dates as they have several shows coming up around New England. One to keep your eye on is the New Year's Eve show. According to Northern Lights' calendar, it is shaping up to be one for the ages, featuring not only the Rustic Overtones, but Paranoid Social Club and As Fast As!! Unbelievable!!

Finally, as promised, I've found the time to get Darek's shots up in a gallery from the Higher Ground show earlier in the month. Use the site navigation for full on gallery goodness.

Rustic Overtones Setlists

There is a new link on the Rustic Overtones area for setlists. There was a suggestion to add such a section to the site, and with some help from the forum community collecting information, we were able to compile them in one location. Sign up and join in!

For the time being, only the 2007 shows and the 2002 State Theater Final Show are working, hopefully using the Wayback Machine we can recoup the old data from the old Rustic fan sites. We'll also work to keep the collection up to date.

Higher Ground

Rustic played Friday night, at Higher Ground, in Burlington, Vermont. A handful of board members were in attendance, including Adam/Handsingloves, who was kind enough to tape the show and hook us up. As always, get it here or head on over to the Rustic media section for it and more goodies. A gallery is also in the makings, courtesy of Darek, which I will put up soon. Thanks again, you two!

Rustic Overtones On the Road

Rustic has been keeping busy and filling their schedule.. check out their MySpace page for "officially announced" tour dates. Alternatively (or in addition to that) you can keep tabs on the RockLikeWar message board. The official MySpace page seems to be sporadically updated, and often times dates and venues will be posted up on the message board well in advance. It's a great resource and fun getting to know fellow fans.

WCYY Patio Show

The moment we've all been waiting for. Earlier this evening the guys played their first real show, with all the guys there, plugged-in and everything.

You can see a small gallery here at MaineToday, and more importantly you can find a recording(!) of the performance, broken into individual tracks, courtesy of Tim over at RockLikeWar. If you've got any shots of your own, pass 'em on to us and we'll get them into a gallery.
